Arlington SR22

Q: I spend a lot of time in school, at work, and studying, so don’t really have free time to research Arlington SR22 car insurance discounts. Can you give me an idea of what’s out there for me?

A: Since you’re a student and seem to be pretty dedicated to your schoolwork, then you can probably save money on your Arlington SR22 car insurance coverage by applying to it couple of discounts available just to students.

One of these is the good student discount, which you should be able to have added on to your Arlington SR22 coverage. If you are under the age of 25 (and over 16), unmarried (with some companies), are a student at high school or college full time, and make good grades, then you can get as much as 20% off, depending on what car insurance company you are with.

Another thing you can do is keep your name on your parent’s car insurance policy and leave your car at home with them. If you live over a hundred miles away from where you go to school, there’s a discount for this.

Chesapeake SR22

Q: What is Chesapeake SR22 insurance?

A: A Chespeake SR22 form must be filed when you have had your license suspended and need proof of insurance in order to get it back. That proof of insurance, the SR22, has to go to your Department of Motor Vehicles every month, or you can simply say goodbye to your driver’s license.

In Virginia, you Chesapeake SR22 form should be filed for a period of three years. During those three years, you should be on your best behavior, and your prices will be higher than you might have expected, so you will also have more trouble finding affordable insurance, although you do have options. Even after your three years are over, you will still feel the negative effects of your Chesapeake SR22 for two more years.

Filing a Chesapeake SR22 is only required if you want to unsuspend your license. If you think you can do without driving, then you can go ahead and leave it unsuspended for three years and just avoid getting behind the wheel.

Richmond SR22

Q: As someone who doesn’t own a car, what sort of Richmond SR22 car insurance can I get for my non owners policy?

A: Being as you don’t have your own car, and thus have a Richmond SR22 for non owner drivers policy, your options are fewer, but you still have many. A lot of the savings for car insurance coverage comes from the type of car you have and what you do with it, which is a big reason for why non owner car insurance costs more than driver-owner car insurance. Here’s a few you can use:

  • Educate yourself: take a driver’s ed or defensive driving class, or both, so you can get a discount on your car insurance.
  • For students: leave your car at home when you go to college and make sure you get good grades so you can save on your Richmond SR22.
  • Cut back: Drop your coverage to the minimum it can go and try not to drive as much, for a couple more discounts.

Norfolk SR22

Q: So, I just started looking for Norfolk SR22 car insurance coverage yesterday, and so far all I’ve heard is “no, no, no”. How can the court require me to file an SR22 form if nobody wants to insure me? Am I doomed to take the bus?

A: It certainly would be messed up if you were required to file a Norfolk SR22 form and then found there was no way you could actually do that, but fortunately you do have a couple of options. Since you haven’t been looking long, it might not have ocurred to you to expand your search to companies which only insure people who are high risk. While it’s possible they won’t accept you as well, depending on your insurance risk score, it’s also more likely they will.

If even that door is closed to you, look up the Virginia Department of Insurance to find out more about the available assigned risk car insurance pool, which is available for drivers who can’t get insured elsewhere. You’l be given a random company who must sell you a Norfolk SR22 car insurance policy, but it will be at a high price.

Reader’s Question:

Can I get a license in Delaware if my license is suspended in VA?

Amanda.

Thank you for asking Amanda.

The answer is No,

If your driver license is suspended in the state of Virginia, it is likely that you will not going to be able to get a license in Delaware. The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles states that the law does not allow the DMV to issue a driver’s license under certain circumstances.

It is mentioned in the Delaware DMV’s list of circumstances in which they do not issue a drivers license, that you cannot acquire one if your license or driving privileges are suspended or revoked from other state. You may contact the DE DMV or visit their website if you want to get more information to about your specific situation. However you will need to get your VA driver’s license reinstated first before you can apply for a DE driver’s license.

Reader’s Question:

Hi. I live in Virginia and I just want to know how many years does a DUI stay on my driving record.

Faye

Thank you for asking Faye.

In Virginia the number of years that an infraction for driving under the influence (DUI) remains on your DMV record is eleven (11) . On the other hand, if you were driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) then the offense stays on your record permanently.

Below are the traffic violation convictions that involved alcohol or drugs remain on a Virginia driving record for 11 years:

* Driving while intoxicated
* Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
* Driving under the influence of drugs
* Driving while intoxicated – maiming
* Involuntary manslaughter/alcohol
* Refusing blood/breath test

If you get convicted of Driving under the influence, as well as the driving violations listed above,it will also have the VA DMV place 6 points on your driver’s license.

Reader’s Question:

I just want to know the penalties and fines if I drive without an insurance in the state of Virginia? Thank you.

Kim

Thank you for asking Kim.

The state of Virginia requires minimum auto insurance coverage of 25/50/20 This stands for for bodily injury/death of one person of $25,000 up to $50,000 and property damage $20,000. When buying license plates in VA you must certify that the car is covered by these required insurance or pay the fee for uninsured motor vehicle (UMV).

VA car owners who are uninsured or have not paid the UMV fee will have their vehicle registration suspended or revoked. To reinstate the drivers license the driver must pay a $500 statutory fee, file a Financial Responsibility Insurance Certificate (SR-22) with the DMV for 3 years and pay a reinstatement fee.

Getting a ticket for driving without insurance will result in fines, driver’s license suspension, and cancellation of the registration on all cars that you own or co-own. To get more information on the exact amount that you will need to pay for the fine, you may contact the court listed on the ticket since the amount will depend on the jurisdiction in which you received the citation. Some Virginia courts have a system in which you can pay the fine online.

Reader’s Question:

I have a drivers license in Maryland and I just received a ticket in Virginia. How will this affect my record in MD?

Jim.

Thank you for asking Jim.

Maryland does not access points for tickets received for out of state moving infractions generally. The ticket you received in Virginia would not be assigned points to go on your MD license unless it is a serious and a violation instead of something minor offense like a speeding ticket.

Maryland and Virginia are part of a Driver’s License Agreement which allows them to exchange tickets received in a different state back to the home state. Although it is not likely that you will receive points on your Maryland license for the Virginia ticket that you received, it is possible that the ticket itself might show up on your driving record. In addition to that, always make certain that you take care of the VA ticket because both states are part of a Non-Resident Violator Compact which means if you fail to pay a ticket received in a from out of state then your home state is required to suspend or revoked your driver’s license.

Reader’s Question:

I just want to know what will happened if I get a speeding ticket in PA and I have a VA license. Will this increase my insurance premium?

Jesse

Thank you for asking Jesse.

All moving violation that you receive goes on your motor vehicle record. It does not matter in which state you are licensed , nor does it matter in what state you received the ticket. In addition to that, if you move to another state, all tickets you received with your Virginia driver’s license will follow you to your new state of residency, and the driver’s license you receive from that state. All insurance companies handle insurance points differently. The auto insurance providers use different point system under which assigns their individual values to each type of traffic infractions and accident claim. The effect on your insurance rate premium will depend on the degree of this speeding ticket and your prior convictions on your motor vehicle report.

If this infraction makes your insurance premium increase, you may speak with your insurance agent to know more about this or if theres any way you can lower it.

Reader’s Question:

What is the minimum liability coverage required in the state of Virginia?

Angel

Thank you for asking Angel.

According to the state of Virginia financial responsibility law, all Virginia registered motor vehicle owners are required to have auto liability insurance or enough money to pay for any losses that may result from an automobile accident.

Most motor vehicle owners and drivers within Virginia meet the financial responsibility requirement by obtaining car insurance. A motorist can have their motor vehicle insured with minimum liability coverage through a policy issued by an insurance provider licensed to do business in Virginia.

The minimum liability coverage is 25/50/20. This stands for:

$25,000 for bodily injury/death of one person ,

$50,000 for bodily injury/death of two or more persons

$20,000 for property damage

To get more information on car insurance in Virginia you may speak to your insurance agent.
