Reader’s Question:

I just want to know what will happened if I get a speeding ticket in PA and I have a VA license. Will this increase my insurance premium?

Jesse

Thank you for asking Jesse.

All moving violation that you receive goes on your motor vehicle record. It does not matter in which state you are licensed , nor does it matter in what state you received the ticket. In addition to that, if you move to another state, all tickets you received with your Virginia driver’s license will follow you to your new state of residency, and the driver’s license you receive from that state. All insurance companies handle insurance points differently. The auto insurance providers use different point system under which assigns their individual values to each type of traffic infractions and accident claim. The effect on your insurance rate premium will depend on the degree of this speeding ticket and your prior convictions on your motor vehicle report.

If this infraction makes your insurance premium increase, you may speak with your insurance agent to know more about this or if theres any way you can lower it.

Goodluck!
