Reader’s Question:

Can you please tell me the cost and fines that I have to pay for speeding ticket in the state of VA?

Tim

Thank you for asking Tim.

According to Virginia laws reckless driving is a Class One Misdemeanor punishable by:

* Up to 1 year in jail, and/or
* Up to $2500 in fines, and/or
* Up to 6 months loss of privilege to drive in Virginia

Reckless driving charges in most jurisdictions cannot be paid to the court. One must appear in court because it is a possible that jail time will be part of the sentence.

The fine is usually around $250 with no jail time and no suspension of license. Your penalty could differ though depending upon the jurisdiction you were cited in and some other considerations like how many miles per hour over the speed limit you were going when stopped, etc.

To get more information for the exact penalty for your reckless driving ticket in Virginia you may call the court listed on the speeding ticket that you received.

Goodluck!
