Reader’s Question:

As a consumer, I might not have any political arguments or valid social issues when it comes to auto insurance rates being determined unfairly. Although, I personally feel that these categories in Alexandria, Virginia are discriminatory. Would anyone have ideas on issue relating to auto insurance companies determining premium rates?

There are many arguments that can be made for the case that car insurance rates are discriminatory in Alexandria, Virginia VA. I agree that they discriminate based on age – the oldest and the youngest pay more, even if they are good drivers. You might also think they discriminate on the basis of gender, with women paying less for insurance than men. Even more discriminating against unmarried people, and since certain groups are not allowed to marry, this amounts to discrimination against them as well.

Auto insurance companies in Alexandria, Virginia VA do not hide this fact though. Part of the business of selling auto insurance is to do some calculated risk. If auto insurance companies would not ‘discriminate’ on the basis of age, gender, or marital status, then how can they set their pricing? Auto insurance premium rates are based on some risk factors, which means that auto insurers will calculate risk factors on them so they can set their premiums on specific consumers.

I think the more politically correct term would be something else other than discrimination. It might be more pleasant to the ears if those categories be called as ‘classifications’ rather than discrimination in Alexandria, Virginia VA.
