Choosing the best term life insurance rate is not as simple as some say. There are mistakes that look obvious but many people still make it. So what are these mistakes?

The first one that people often make is going for the insurance that has the lowest rate. While it is correct to do so, you should not forget to put other things into consideration. Like conversion or even extension. Unlike whole life, a term insurance is limited for a period of time. Once that term expires, then so does your coverage. When this time comes, you may find it difficult to have a new insurance. Even if you do, there is a chance that the premiums could be higher. So avoid making a decision based on rates alone.

Another mistake that people make is getting a low coverage. The reason is mainly low coverage means lower premium. This is a very big no. What if you are the breadwinner and something happens to you? Will the money that your family will get from the insurance be enough to cover what was lost? Like your income perhaps? What happens to your wife or your children?

In their quest for the best term life insurance rate, people also make the wrong assumption that the insurance they qualify for is the best for them. There is such a thing as underwriting in the insurance industry and different companies underwrite their insurance in different ways.

If you happen to have a copy of an old policy then read it again. It may be that your old policy has a lower rate than the one you’re planning to get. If this is the case, then you may want to ask the company or agent if you can still avail the same rate. It is also possible that the new one you’re planning is lower than your old one.

Finally, before the period of your term insurance lapses, inquire how much it is worth in the market. Some holders have managed to sell their policies and made more money than the cash value of the actual policy.

I hope you can avoid making these mistakes so that you can fully enjoy the best term life insurance rate in Virginia.
